With the show just hours away, it’s no secret that the name of the winners for a 2018 ROC award are printed and sealed in an envelope. Close to 600 people will enter the doors of Hochstein School of Music to walk the red carpet. The swag of the evening will vary. Some guests will keep it classic with tuxedos and shiny shoes while others will sport Nike sweat suits and Foamposites.

There will be 15 entertainment acts from hip hop dance to gospel performance. Local leaders will be recognized for service to the Rochester community. Out of 53 categories, only 12 will be acknowledged on the main stage and the others will receive their award in a private room. Local businesses will fill  empty space with a table and two chairs to sell clothing, jewelry and food.

The final details are crucial for the volunteers who are amped to see their hard work come to fruition. Here are the top 5 things (in no particular order) volunteers say is most exciting about the 2018 ROC Awards:

  1. The New Location: Over the years the location of the event has changed from hotel ballrooms to large theatres. This year, Hochstein School of Music will house the well attended event.
  2. The Production: Good performances are expected each year. Yes, people purchase their tickets to support the event but they also want to see quality entertainment. Organizes say with performances from 1055 The Beat Rochester UpNext winner Chi the Realest, singer Mars McGowin, Fire Squad dancers and Dunwoody Dance troupe, the overall production of the event is something worth experiencing.
  3. VIP Section: If you’re a VIP ticket holder, expect to be treated like royalty. From goodie bags to catered meals, the coordinators said the VIP section is coordinated with the idea of hospitality at the forefront.
  4. The Cypher:  Coordinators have created a homegrown cypher featuring Ralph Buckey, Swift Jayy, Young Sleep, Douper Leo, L’z Da Don and Chi TheRealist.  The cypher is expected to be lyrically entertaining and thought-provoking.
  5. The After Party: After the awards show, 150 ticket holders will gather at the Harro East Ballroom for the official after party.  1055 The Beat Rochester  UpNext winner, A.G. will perform his hit single Hard work pays off.
