An 18 year old boy’s dying wish has been granted, thanks to members of the Rochester community. The wish wasn’t for himself, but his sister and nephew.

Evelice Ortiz has been without her brother, Alejandro, for about a week now and she already misses him dearly. Alejandro was born with heart failure and was only supposed to live until age 12. He died last week at Isaiah House hospice- he was 18.

He was tired of fighting, but Evelice said he saved one last fight for his only family. Evelice and her son, Christian, were homeless for three months. Together with the staff at Isaiah House, they set up a GoFundMe account. Donations poured in, enough to cover a year’s rent and more.

The very same day Evelice picked up the keys to her new apartment, Alejandro died. She said she knows he needed to make sure she was okay before he ended his fight.

“It was like he knew we were okay. And we were gonna be okay, we were all set. I had the conversation with him the night before, either way whether you’re here we got your back, if you’re not here mom and dad are on the other side waiting for you, so however you are you’re always gonna be okay,” Evelice said.

And she said she thinks she will be okay too.

“I can’t look at it negative, I can’t question God.”

She said she is grateful for the time she got with Alejandro- a caring soul who saved his most generous act for last.

“I got 3 angels watching over us now.”

The GoFundMe has currently raised over $13,000. If you would like to give to Evelice and Christian, they are still accepting donations to help pay off Alejandro’s funeral.
