Urban League of Rochester has named a new president and CEO.
The Board of Directors announced Thursday that Dr. Seanelle Hawkins was selected after a nationwide search. She will be the first woman to ever serve as president of Urban League of Rochester.
Dr. Hawkins will begin her new position on June 3.
She has been the executive director of Sojourner House at Pathstone and Wilson Commencement Park.
“We are fully confident that Dr. Hawkins can pick up the baton where current CEO William G. Clark leaves off,” the board said in a statement released Thursday. “Dr. Hawkins has a wealth of experience in non-profit management. Her experience coupled with her passion will continue to lead ULR to new levels.”
Clark has led the Urban League of Rochester for 37 years and announced last October that he would be stepping down this year.
Clark served in several leadership positions, before becoming the League’s President and CEO in 1994.
For more than 50 years, Urban League of Rochester has served the mission to assist African-Americans, Latinos, the poor and other disadvantaged to secure economic self-reliance, parity and power and civil rights.
