Rochester School Board Commissioner Natalie Sheppard is running for the New York State Assembly.
Sheppard made the announcement Thursday in a social media post.

“After serving in an elected position, I have experienced how harmful the separation between different levels of government has been to our community,” Sheppard said in the post. “I am running for Assembly because our community deserves strong advocates representing the best interest of people in every level of government.”
Sheppard has served on the Board of Education since 2018.
The 137th Assembly seat is currently held by Assemblyman David Gantt.
