It’s unlikely that you’d catch the beat of what 30-year old Kyran Ashford was listening to when he was recorded by an airplane passenger departing a boarding gate at the Rochester International Airport last week. Why? It’s simple; employees can’t have headphones on while directing airplane traffic.
However, when The Beat staff talked with Ashford after his viral social media experience, he did admit that if he could have listened to anything that morning, it would have been The Breakfast Club Morning Show on his favorite new station, The Beat 105.5 FM.
On Friday, October 20, Ashford became a social media sensation. After five years of busting a move to his own beat as an Operations Agent for Jetstream Ground Services, Ashford has received global recognition for something he says is most important: Making people smile.
“I just want to have a positive impact on the customers that board our airplanes,” Ashford said. “People might forget what I say when giving directions over the intercom, but how I say it and how I make them feel, they may never forget that.”
Ashford has no intentions on stopping his daily shenanigans and hopeful that all of the media attention will present new opportunities for him to dance his way to new opportunities with his employer. In the meantime, we’re encouraging Mr. Kyran Ashford to keep making people smile while rocking to his own Beat!
