Lil Wayne skipped an appearance on his joint tour with Blink-182 on Saturday night after claiming he was kicked out of a St. Louis hotel that morning.
Multiple local outlets report that police were called to the Ritz-Carlton for a disturbance between Lil Wayne’s entourage and hotel staff, which began over complaints of marijuana smells, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and KMOV.
Clayton interim police chief Mark Smith told the Post-Dispatch that Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., “wasn’t happy to be asked to open the balcony doors” to air out the smell.
The rapper apologized to fans Saturday morning on Twitter, writing he was “kik’d out” of his hotel and therefore wouldn’t be performing in St. Louis.
“It’s all luv tho,” he added.
Local outlets reported that police said the rapper left the hotel voluntarily and was not forced to leave, as his tweet suggested. USA TODAY has reached out to Lil Wayne’s representative, the Clayton (Missouri) Police Department and the Ritz-Carlton for comment.
Lil Wayne previously raised eyebrows on tour with the pop-punk band earlier this summer when he reportedly walked off a Virginia stage in July midway through a performance.
Earlier in the set, he had complained about the show’s crowd size.
“Hold on, I just want the people to know, if you’re wondering, please forgive me but I am so not used to performing to a crowd – and there’s not too many – that’s not my swag,” he said, stopping one of his songs. “I’m not sure how long I’m going to be able to do this tour, but make some noise for Blink-182 for including me anyway. This might be my last night, though. Let’s go.”
The rapper later assured fans on Twitter he would not be quitting the tour, tweeting, “yesterday was krazy! But I want all my fans to know I won’t be quitting this tour! I’m having too much fun with my bros blink-182.”
