Frontier Field will be getting a much needed makeover next week.
Rochester Red Wings president and CEO Naomi Silver says the grass, soil, and drainage all require a lot of care and upkeep, but eventually, it all needs to be replaced.
“We’ve experienced a couple dates over recent seasons when this field hasn’t drained well after a downpour, even though that rain may have come earlier in the day,” said Silver. “When we have to postpone under those circumstances, it is costly and disappointing for our fans.”
She says the field hasn’t been replaced in 12 years, despite recommendations to do so every 7-8 years.
The project will cost $2.2 million.
Work will begin next week and last through March.
